About Coffs Harbour Legacy Nursing Home

Coffs Harbour Legacy Nursing Home’s commitment to providing a home for people that require full time nursing care has been the basis of our service delivery of respect, compassion and assisting with coming into a new environment to live the rest of their time to the fullest potential.

We are a not for profit organisation that works within the philosophy of Legacy, and are one of only two Legacy Nursing Homes in Australia. We offer 49 beds only which allows us to provide personalised care as directed by the residents and their families.

We provide Registered Nurses 24 hours a day and have increased the number of Endorsed Enrolled Nurses to improve the assessments and clinical care provided to all of our residents. Our Assistants in Nursing have a Certificate III as a minimum qualification and are a vital part of our team to deliver the best care possible.

Our Recreational Activities Officers (RAO’s) provide a wide range of activities for all residents 7 days per week. We offer group and individual programmes and have a Men’s Club just for the blokes. Feel free to talk to any of our RAO’s to assist in developing a programme that will meet your needs or the needs of your family member.

Volunteers are a vital resource to both Coffs Harbour Legacy Nursing Home and Coffs Harbour Legacy by bringing skills, experience and support for all residents, families and staff. Volunteers are exceptional people that gain the respect and gratitude of all people that come into contact with. We have a wide variety of activities available for volunteers to assist with. If you would like to know more about becoming a volunteer please call us on 1300 LEGACY (534 229).

Background

During 1970 the Coffs Harbour Legacy Club recognised the need for specialised care and attention to be provided for the rapidly increasing numbers of aged and infirm citizens in general, and Legacy beneficiaries in particular, residing in its geographical area of responsibility.

As a consequence, the Legacy Nursing Home was constructed, opening in 1974 with accommodation for thirty-one residents.  Subsequent extensions have occurred to provide accommodation for forty-three residents (including two in short term respite care).

Further extensions have occurred to accommodate a total of forty-nine residents. At the beginning of 2014 extensive renovations have occurred to create and increased number of single accommodation rooms with their own en-suite.

The nurses station with new treatment room and medication room also improved the nursing staff work environment. There is also a new activities room complete with kitchenette for all residents and families to utilise. A new physiotherapy room is also being created for all residents to work alongside the physiotherapist in a private, spacious and equipped area. More bathrooms are also being completed to improve the privacy for all residents.

The nursing home has also installed a complete fire sprinkler system align with the regulatory changes imposed by the NSW state government.

We enjoy the good times each person experiences, but we are also there when times are not so good. Our joy is the relationships that we develop with each resident, family and friends and between ourselves. We are a team and we support each other so that we can provide the best care that is available for each and every person. There is not a day when we do not experience a sense of joy from the little things that can occur and we also gain a sense of achievement for the comfort that we provide to not only residents but also their families and friends.
